About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Associate Director of Pharmacy to lead our patient-focused services. As a key member of our pharmacy team, you will be responsible for the development, delivery, and evaluation of our medicines optimisation and pharmacy services.

Working closely with our Director of Pharmacy and other senior leaders, you will contribute to the implementation of our Medicines Optimisation & Pharmacy Services strategy, promoting and evaluating new service models to benefit patient care and experience.

You will be responsible for leading a team of pharmacy professionals, managing budgets, and ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and efficient pharmacy services to patients and other service users.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development, delivery, and evaluation of medicines optimisation and pharmacy services.
  • Contribute to the implementation of our Medicines Optimisation & Pharmacy Services strategy.
  • Manage a team of pharmacy professionals, including clinical pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and support staff.
  • Develop and implement budgets and financial plans to ensure the effective delivery of pharmacy services.
  • Ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and efficient pharmacy services to patients and other service users.
  • Work closely with our Director of Pharmacy and other senior leaders to promote and evaluate new service models.
  • Represent the pharmacy department on Trust-wide groups and committees.
  • Provide expert advice on medicines optimisation, including legal, ethical, and cost-effectiveness.
Requirements
  • Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent.
  • Postgraduate Diploma or Postgraduate Masters Degree in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent practical experience.
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Membership of relevant pharmacy leadership bodies.
  • Management training obtained through short courses.
Experience
  • Highly experienced at senior management level.
  • Comprehensive understanding of systems relevant to the practice of pharmacy in hospitals.
  • Extensive experience as a senior pharmacy manager in a complex environment.
  • Experience of managing a pharmacy service.
  • Financial and budgetary experience.
  • Demonstrable evidence of managing change involving staff in a discrete pharmacy area.
Skills and Abilities
  • Business planning and project management skills.
  • Excellent leadership, organisational, prioritisation, time management, personal effectiveness, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Innovation and implementation skills to develop pharmacy services.
  • Proven track record of successful budget management.
  • A demonstrably high degree of emotional intelligence.
  • Computing skills to include a working knowledge of pharmacy computer systems, the internet, Microsoft Office, and patient information systems.
