About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to provide a generic mental health service to children and adolescents. As a key member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will be responsible for direct clinical work, supervision, leading management of referrals, effective liaison with various departments, and undertaking local strategic management tasks as appropriate to the post.

You will have strong interest and experience in working with children and adolescents, and a commitment to delivering high-quality care in a community-based setting.

Main Responsibilities
  • To provide a psychiatric service for children and young people in Oldham, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
  • To undertake direct clinical work and provide supervision to junior medical staff, ensuring they receive high-quality training and support.
  • To manage a needs-led interface with Working Age Psychiatry, promoting seamless care pathways and reducing health inequalities.
  • To work creatively with other agencies involved with children and young people, such as Paediatrics, Schools, and colleges, YOT, Drug and Alcohol services, Voluntary sector, and Local Authority, fostering strong partnerships and collaborative working.
  • To provide clinical supervision as required to junior medical staff, helping them develop their skills and confidence in managing complex cases.
  • To support the continued development of the Oldham CAMHS service, contributing to strategic planning and implementation of new initiatives.
  • To adhere to all relevant local and national safeguarding policies and procedures, prioritizing the safety and well-being of our patients.
Requirements
  • Full GMC Registration is essential for this role.
  • Possession of CCT in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, or being within 6 months of achieving this, or entered on the GMC Specialist Register.
  • Section 12 Approval under Mental Health Act 1983, or eligibility for approval.
  • Demonstrable competency across the PMETB-approved curriculum for higher training in Child and Adolescent psychiatry.
  • Registered for CPD with the RCPsych.
