About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Recovery Team Leader to join our team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our perioperative team, you will be responsible for leading and managing the recovery department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and contributing to the overall success of our trust.

Main Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the recovery department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and contributing to the overall success of our trust.
  • Develop and implement effective strategies to improve patient outcomes, reduce waiting times, and enhance the overall patient experience.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless communication and coordination of care.
  • Provide guidance, support, and development opportunities to junior staff members, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous learning.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and guidelines that promote best practice and patient safety.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes to enhance patient care and outcomes.

Requirements
  • NMC Registered Nurse or HCPC Registered Operating Department Practitioner
  • Knowledge of a broad range of theatre procedures and instrumentation/processes equivalent to post-graduate level acquired through Diploma/Degree plus experience and further study or qualification or an equivalent level of knowledge associated with the practice setting.
  • Recent experience within theatres working as a registered practitioner in an acute practice setting involving the supervision/education of junior staff.
  • Can demonstrate depth and breadth of experience of working in at least 2 areas of perioperative practice (anaesthetics, scrub, or recovery), and in different specialties including elective and emergency practice settings.
  • Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration.
  • Experience of supporting the implementation of change including new procedures/processes.
  • Evidence of the ability to confidently lead/co-ordinate a shift/area of the department.
  • Evidence of the ability to organise others and forward plan and review/adjust staff rotas.
  • Experienced in learning from incidents/complaints and supporting changes in practice.
  • Can demonstrate an understanding of human resource management associated with codes of practice/professional and Trust guidelines.
  • Can demonstrate understanding of how to review/plan staff rotas in accordance with Trust guidance/service need and mitigate workforce risks associated with staff deployment.
