SEM Support Assistant Role Overview

GSL Education is seeking a compassionate and proactive SEM Support Assistant to join our team in Newham. As a SEM Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs navigate their academic and social environments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist students with SEMH needs in building confidence and resilience.
  • Implement tailored support strategies and individualised plans in collaboration with teaching staff.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages students to express their feelings and manage their behaviours effectively.
  • Work closely with teachers to monitor students' progress and adapt learning activities to enhance their engagement and participation.
  • Provide one-on-one support during lessons and assist with the development of coping strategies for managing emotions.

Requirements:
  • Previous experience working with students who have SEMH needs or in a similar support role is preferable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively connect with students and colleagues.
  • A patient, compassionate, and proactive approach to promoting inclusion and supporting students' emotional development.
  • A strong knowledge of safeguarding and child protection practices, with successful applicants required to complete all necessary background checks, including an enhanced DBS on the update service.
