We are a large, friendly dual GP practice enterprise operating from purpose-built premises in Beckenham. Our combined clinical workforce consists of five GP Partners/Directors and nine Salaried GPs, some of whom work part-time. We also employ a Nurse Practitioner, Practice Pharmacist, Diabetes Specialist Nurse, and several practice nurses.

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Medical Secretary to complement our existing team. The ideal candidate will be a competent Medical Secretary with experience in a primary care setting, preferably with knowledge of Emis Web and Outlook.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide efficient and comprehensive secretarial support to the practice.
  • Ensure the smooth running of the secretarial service and prioritize workload as appropriate.
  • Answer telephone enquiries in a prompt, efficient, and helpful manner.
  • Manage and respond to patient tasks, prioritizing where necessary.
  • Use the digital dictation system to type referrals, clinical letters, and reports as required by the doctors and nurses.
  • Refer patients via the e-referral system and oversee progress of those referrals.
  • Liaise with hospitals and other outside agencies regarding appointments, missing hospital correspondence, and test results.
  • Deal with enquiries from patients professionally and sympathetically.
  • Check and respond to secretarial emails, sending correspondence via mail and email according to protocol.
  • Provide additional secretarial and administrative support to the practices as required.

Person Specification

Essential

  • GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths or equivalent.
  • Medical secretarial experience.
  • Experience of working in a customer care environment.

Desirable

  • Medical secretarial experience within primary care.
  • Knowledge of Emis Web, Docman, and Outlook.
