Deputy Home Manager (Children)

Job Purpose

The Deputy Manager plays a vital role in the lives of children and young people, ensuring a safe and stimulating environment that meets their emotional and developmental needs. You will assess their needs and encourage positive change through proactive and supportive interaction, maintaining a pro-social approach.

You will support the Registered Manager in delivering a high-quality service that meets the needs of children and young people, working closely with staff to ensure a seamless service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Manage the physical environment, ensuring repairs and renewals are carried out promptly and health and safety matters are resolved.
  2. Assist the Registered Manager with management of the home and deputise in their absence, commensurate with the grade.
  3. Encourage staff to develop their skills and knowledge, promoting a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  4. Supervise and appraise staff, ensuring they have the necessary skills and support to deliver high-quality care.
  5. Oversee care planning and risk management, ensuring individual care plans are developed, delivered, and evaluated, communicating any changes.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must hold a minimum NVQ Diploma Level 3 in Residential Child Care and the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare. We will fund your studies if you do not already hold these diplomas, and you must achieve Level 5 within a reasonable period, normally 2 years after starting work.

Experience Required

  1. At least 2 years' experience relevant to residential care in the last 5 years.
  2. Care planning, risk management, and case management.
  3. Leading a team, providing supervision, motivation, and direction for staff.
  4. Managing challenging children and young people.
  5. Convening, chairing, and contributing to meetings and reviews.
  6. Working with budgets and financial management.
