The Australian National Maritime Museum seeks an experienced leader to join our Fleet and Collections Management team as Assistant Director, Fleet and Collections. This non-ongoing Executive Level 2 position offers a unique opportunity to lead the fleet and collection management division.

As one of Sydney's most visited museums, the Australian National Maritime Museum is committed to sharing our national maritime story with Australia and the world. We welcome over 2.5 million visitors annually and are supported by a thriving staff, membership, volunteer, and education base.

This role reports directly to the Director and CEO and contributes to strategy development and implementation. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the fleet and collections management division, comprising fleet, conservation, and registration functions.

The position has responsibility for the ANMM fleet, including ongoing operations and maintenance, and the preservation and registration of the ANMM Collection. The collection spans high-value items from large vessels to digital assets.

The role also includes managing the divisional budget, ensuring safety and wellbeing, and performance of staff members. Key accountabilities include:

  • Strategic leadership of fleet management, collection, and registration activities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship management skills to build trust and rapport quickly.
