Edinburgh, Edinburgh, United Kingdom NHS Scotland Full time

NHS Scotland is a pioneering healthcare provider committed to delivering exceptional patient care and eliminating discrimination.

The organisation fosters an inclusive environment where every employee feels valued and respected, allowing them to contribute their best. To achieve this goal, NHS Scotland actively encourages applications from diverse backgrounds.

We are dedicated to supporting candidates with disabilities, long-term conditions, or neurodivergent traits by implementing reasonable adjustments to our recruitment processes.

The position of Specialist Cancer Care Pharmacist at the Edinburgh Cancer Centre, Western General Hospital, offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic team focused on delivering high-quality pharmacy services in cancer care.

This Band 7 role involves working in a 37-hour week, with a fixed-term contract lasting 12 months. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in weekend, public holiday, and on-call commitments.

NHS Lothian covers a vast area, encompassing Edinburgh city, East Lothian, Midlothian, and West Lothian, serving a population of approximately 900,000 people. We provide a comprehensive range of primary, community-based, and acute hospital services, as well as regional and national services across various clinical specialties.

Our vision for the Pharmacy & Medicines Service is to deliver clinically led, person-centred services that ensure patients receive the best possible outcomes from their medicines and pharmacy services. We strive to create an environment where every member of the team can flourish, develop, and utilise their skills effectively.

The Edinburgh Cancer Centre provides specialist cancer services for the South East of Scotland Cancer Network, treating oncology and haematology patients in pharmacist day-case, OPD, and in-patient settings. The centre has a broad research portfolio and participates in numerous cancer clinical trials. As a member of our supportive pharmacy team, you will contribute to the development and delivery of clinical pharmacy services in cancer care.

This exciting opportunity allows you to join a well-established team and engage in rotational posts that include time within Homecare services and the ChemoCare team. You will have the chance to gain experience across various cancer services, including independent prescribing roles for those interested in expanding their clinical practice.

To succeed in this role, you must hold a Master of Pharmacy degree or equivalent, be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), and possess competence equivalent to the Post Registration Foundation Pharmacist Framework. Previous experience proactively influencing prescribing in a secondary care environment and working in a patient-focused environment are desirable but not essential.

We offer opportunities for further postgraduate qualifications and support you in developing your skills and expertise. Ideal candidates will have a strong understanding of pharmacy services and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.

This role requires the successful candidate to undergo a PVG Scheme membership check, which will be handled separately before commencement.
