Housing Officer Role

Manucomm Recruitment is seeking a skilled Housing Officer to join our client, a forward-thinking District Council, on a 5-month fixed-term contract. The successful candidate will work in East Devon, providing a customer-focused housing options and advice service, preventing and relieving homelessness wherever possible.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide a comprehensive and innovative housing options and advice service, emphasizing early intervention and homelessness prevention.
  2. Participate in the housing options duty service, giving initial advice face-to-face or over the telephone to customers.
  3. Carry out housing needs assessments for applicants who are homeless or threatened with homelessness.
  4. Effectively negotiate and mediate with landlords and other relevant parties to prevent homelessness.
  5. Investigate applications in line with the Housing Act 1996 Part 7 and relevant case law.
  6. Create, review, and update effective Personalised Housing Plans to ensure successful homelessness prevention or relief.
  7. Identify suitable emergency and temporary accommodation for homeless priority need households.
  8. Promote and utilize the Council's Rent Deposit Scheme to secure private rented accommodation.
  9. Participate in a reactive 'out of hours' service to deal with urgent homeless cases.
