Job Title: Operations Help Desk Specialist

About the Role:

ERT is seeking a highly skilled Operations Help Desk Specialist to support the Search and Rescue monitoring activities for the United States Mission Control Center (USMCC) Search and Rescue Satellite-Aided Tracking (SARSAT) system.

This is a dual-duty position that combines the responsibilities of a Help Desk Specialist and a Duty Controller. As a Help Desk Specialist, you will be the primary point of contact for customers, providing technical support and resolving issues related to the SARSAT system. As a Duty Controller, you will be responsible for monitoring the USMCC SARSAT system, responding to requests from Rescue Coordination Centers (RCCs), and performing administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor the USMCC SARSAT system and respond to requests from RCCs and other stakeholders
  • Analyze system alarms and take corrective actions
  • Process daily satellite orbital data to ensure accurate Doppler positions for search and rescue efforts
  • Communicate with RCCs to capture and record accurate feedback on beacon activation outcomes
  • Perform administrative tasks, including answering phones, recording shift activity, and supporting the Beacon Registration Database (RGDB) staff
Requirements:
  • Minimum 4 years' relevant experience in customer service, IT help desk, or a related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Typing speed of 35-45 wpm or greater
  • Proven experience using software tools such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Dependability, attention to detail, and willingness to work a rotating 12-hour shift schedule
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior military experience serving as an operations or command center duty officer
  • Understanding of mathematics, latitude and longitude, and time zones
