Purpose of the role

The role of Corporate Communications Manager is to shape and communicate British Airways' corporate story, influencing the media environment through strategic communications. With a focus on innovation, economic contribution, sustainability, and strategy and performance narratives, this role is key to enhancing the company's reputation as a responsible business. Key responsibilities include devising and executing memorable communication campaigns, identifying external speaking opportunities, and preparing briefing notes, speeches, and communication materials for senior spokespeople. Additionally, the successful candidate will support the delivery of Group financial results, write English-language financial communication materials, and develop and execute media and digital communications plans. They will also manage media issues and crises, devise reactive statements, and brief the Director of Corporate Affairs. Furthermore, the role involves coordinating with IAG operating companies' communications teams on messaging and initiatives to ensure alignment across the Group. Building relationships with media in IAG's key markets is also a key aspect of this role. The successful candidate will be responsible for owning measurement and analysis for the team, compiling quarterly reports to drive effective communication strategies.

Key skills and experience
  • Significant experience in corporate communications and media relations.
  • Excellent written English skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts and technical content in a simpler way.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to act as a media spokesperson.
  • Experience managing issues, with the ability to have robust conversations to correct and inform reporter and commentator coverage.
  • Demonstrated success of briefing spokespeople, and comfortable advising stakeholders at the most senior level.
  • A proven self-starter, with the ability to think strategically and creatively to propose and execute media campaigns. The successful candidate will be able to own projects from start to finish and deliver on time.
  • Tact, diplomacy, and discretion, with the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Understanding of measurement and evaluation to drive the effectiveness of communications.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and calm under pressure.
