Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Principal Mechanical Systems Engineer to join our client's team in Northern England or South West. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development of mechanical design solutions, supporting technical changes to existing company products, and shaping the next generation of defence/weapons platforms.

The role requires strong leadership skills, experience in developing design solutions based on customer requirements, and reviewing technical reports. The successful candidate will also need to have experience with finite element analysis (FEA) software, product data management (PDM) tools, and CAD software.

Key Accountabilities

  • Leading the development of solutions to technical issues as a member of an integrated project team, reporting to Technical Leads and directly to the customer.
  • Developing design solutions based on customer requirements, validating, and verifying through the design process.
  • Reviewing and checking design work and technical reports, providing help and direction to less experienced engineers.
  • Carrying out technical analysis and investigations and preparing reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems and the improvement of engineering capability.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline, or a high level of experience within an engineering environment, whilst having experience writing and reviewing technical reports and specifications.
  • Design experience in a production and/or prototyping environment, finite element analysis (FEA) software to perform structural/stress analysis, and product data management (PDM) tools to configuration manage data.
  • Working knowledge of technical office processes, standards, and standard instructions.
  • Experience with the full Product and Engineering Life Cycle.
  • Familiarity with engineering drawing standards and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Working experience with CAD software (CREO or Similar) & PLM software (Teamcenter or similar).
  • Able to achieve BPSS Security Clearance and SC Clearance in the Future due to the Products and Systems that will be involved.
