Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Assistant in Digital Transformation to join our team at BT Group. As a key member of our Research and Network Strategy team, you will play a critical role in driving innovation and delivering business value through research and development.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage research projects and tasks, collaborating with internal teams and external partners to deliver high-impact research outcomes.
  2. Develop and maintain intellectual property, including patent filing and exploitation, to drive business growth.
  3. Lead research in Intelligent Service Orchestration, defining and delivering high-value research across multiple domains.
  4. Supervise graduate and post-graduate student placements and secondments, providing guidance and support.
  5. Qualifications: Strong academic record in technology specialism with post-graduate qualification(s) (PhD or equivalent research experience).
  6. Storytelling with data: Strong skills in building the case for change, drawing on data and analytical techniques, and communicating effectively to business audiences.
Requirements
  1. Technical domain expert: Evidence of significant knowledge and skill relevant to Intelligent Service Orchestration, including:
  • Expertise in service orchestration and SD-WAN features
  • Network automation and orchestration in frameworks and toolsets, including software development skills such as Java, Python, APIs
  • Familiarity with layered service architectures
  • Understanding of VNFM, NFVO, SDWAN
  • Network programming skills, including YANG, JSON, etc.
  • Expertise in Cloud computing, including OpenStack
  • Automation data pipelines
  • Expert in service orchestration industry standards
  • Proven experience in researching and/or development in this area (MANDATORY)
  1. Significant delivery: Evidence of significant business impact through delivery of research (MANDATORY)
  2. Stakeholder management: Evidence of managing project stakeholders across the business at various grade and seniority levels (MANDATORY)
  3. Innovative Thinker: Ability to spot and identify new innovations and act to bring them in and capitalize on their value (MANDATORY)
  4. Commercial Applicability: Understanding of business case principles around relevant innovations and the real value to the business through value proposition build (MANDATORY)
  5. Self-starter, pro-actively working with minimal guidance
  6. Problem solving, intellectually curious, comfortable taking ownership and responsibility
