Safety Assurance Lead for Railway Projects

Matchtech is recruiting a System Safety Assurance Engineer to work with a key client in Toronto. This role requires relocation to the city.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead safety assurance for various projects, ensuring compliance with international safety and technical standards such as EN50126, EN50129, or IEC 61508, CSM-RA, CMREA.
  • Report on progress, manage staff competence and development, deliver and maintain an internal audit schedule to ensure projects follow governance.
  • Coordinate safety studies throughout the project lifecycle to ensure safety requirements are met.
  • Manage activities related to safety assurance in projects.
  • Oversee Hazard Log management, review RAM, V&V, T&C activities from a safety perspective.
  • Approve Safety Reports and Safety Cases.
  • Prepare technical reports for submission to management, clients, and regulatory authorities.
  • Lead safety engineering activities for rolling stock, signaling, and infrastructure projects to ensure compliance with relevant standards.
  • Facilitate HAZOP/HAZID workshops and plan, run, and write up workshops independently.
  • Manage risk assessments for discipline areas, planning, running, and writing up workshops independently.
  • Have working knowledge of Safety Methods: Safety Plan, PHA, FMECA, FTA, IHA, OSHA, SRIL, Hazard Log HL, V&V Safety Report, and Safety Case.
  • Conduct technical analyses and reviews of Engineering Safety Management documentation and project assurance deliverables.
  • Foster a safety culture and serve as a safety role model on the project.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent training.
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Safety designations can be beneficial.
  • High degree of technical proficiency in dealing with safety aspects of large-scale complex railway projects involving multiple players.
  • Strong knowledge in modern railway projects, including various components/systems that these projects consist of.
  • Expertise in applying safety standards like EN50126, EN50129, or IEC 61508, CSM-RA, CMREA.
  • Expertise in creating a Hazard Log, FMECA, FTA, IHA, OSHA, etc.
  • Knowledge of design and construction management aspects of railway projects.
  • Excellent communication skills for managing internal and external stakeholders.
