About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Counsellor to join our team at Douglas Macmillan Hospice. As a Counsellor, you will provide emotional support to clients and their families, helping them cope with the challenges of palliative care and bereavement.

Key Responsibilities

  • To assess and formulate client issues using psychological theory and research, selecting appropriate interventions to support clients.
  • To deliver one-to-one and group counselling sessions, adapting therapeutic input to meet individual needs.
  • To communicate complex information to clients and healthcare professionals, maintaining confidentiality when necessary.
  • To work collaboratively with the hospice multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic patient care.
  • To participate in clinical supervision, ongoing professional development, and training opportunities to maintain and enhance clinical skills.

Requirements

  • A recognised qualification in Counselling or a related field (e.g., Diploma in Counselling, BA/BSc in Psychology).
  • Experience in providing emotional support to individuals, couples, or groups, preferably in a palliative care setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and guidelines governing working with vulnerable adults and children.
  • Ability to manage risk and maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.

Working Conditions

  • This is a full-time position, with regular hours and occasional evening or weekend shifts as required.
  • The successful candidate will be based at Douglas Macmillan Hospice, with some travel to external locations possible.

Salary and Benefits

  • The salary for this role is £40,000 - £45,000 per annum, depending on experience.
  • Additional benefits include access to ongoing training and professional development, generous annual leave entitlement, and pension scheme.
