Job Title: School Youth Mentor

Active Recruitment is working closely with a Mainstream Primary School in Dagenham to find an experienced Youth Mentor to join their team on a temp to perm basis.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will provide specialist support to pupils in key stages 1 and 2 who are experiencing behaviour and attendance issues. They will work closely with the school's SENCO/Inclusion Lead to develop and implement strategies to manage and support these pupils.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement behaviour management strategies to support pupils with challenging behaviour.
  • Establish and maintain a 1:1 mentoring relationship with identified students to draw up agreed action plans and monitor progress.
  • Work with teachers and support staff to promote effective behaviour management strategies and provide support with liaison with parents regarding behaviour incidents.
  • Support the Assistant Head with supervision of students not in lessons and provide support and assistance as needed.
  • Work directly with individuals or groups to raise self-esteem and confidence of pupils and improve their personal and social skills.
  • Monitor progress in improving behaviour and maintain improvements once made.
  • Act as a motivator, role model, and advocate for young people and liaise with the SENCo and outside agencies as appropriate.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience inspiring and motivating pupils who display challenging behaviour.
  • Additional qualifications related to children are highly desirable.
  • Available to commit to a full-time, long-term position.
  • Secondary aged support experience is not necessarily within a school.
  • Calm, patient, and caring approach to working with children.
  • Confident in your approach and able to deliver effective interventions.

The successful candidate must have an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service before starting this role.
