Adult Psychiatry Consultant

Winchester, Hampshire, United Kingdom Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Full time
About the Role

The team is based in Basingstoke, with a hub in Winchester. This position is open to those seeking less than a full-time post or those who wish to job share. A flexible working pattern, including long days, is also available.

The post holder will provide cross-cover for leave with other senior medical staff within the CRHTT and carry out both scheduled and urgent clinical work flexibly to support clinical need and patient safety.

The team enjoys good working relationships with local GPs, CMHTs, Substance Misuse Services, OPMH CMHTs, CAMHS, and Learning Disability Services. Substance Misuse and CAMHS are provided by a different organisation.

The team is supported by junior medical staff and hosts medical students from the University of Southampton as well as the St George's University, Grenada. There is a strong teaching and training culture.

  1. Ensuring evidence-based practice and user-centered recovery principles to assess, plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate all interventions provided by the team to promote recovery and independence. Focusing on the management of service users presenting with the greatest complexity and severity will necessitate consultants working with relatively small case loads in order to be able to respond in a flexible and timely way to the needs of the most unwell.
  2. Leading on the interface with primary care, ensuring there is an effective interface with the Acute Care Pathway, and being proactive in resolving problems across pathways.
  3. Management of risk, weighing complex risk information to deliver care that is in the best interests of the recovery of the individual.
About Us

Southern Health is one of the largest NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK, specialising in mental health and learning disabilities, as well as offering physical health community-based services.

As a Trust, our footprint spans more than 200 sites across Hampshire, wholeheartedly committed to providing the best possible healthcare, reaching a range of diverse communities.

  1. Our 7,000+ workforce is skilled and diverse, with a deep commitment to ongoing staff development. We offer customised training, leadership pathways, and a plethora of career opportunities.
  2. We respect and listen to your thoughts, ideas, and concerns via a well-established network of staff groups to increase awareness and appreciation of equality, diversity, and inclusion.

We are currently working closely with other local NHS Trusts to integrate all our collective community, mental health, and learning disability services across Hampshire and Isle of Wight. The new organisation is set to launch in April 2024 and will incorporate Southern Health, Solent, Isle of Wight, and Sussex Partnership Trusts.

While the new Trust will be substantially bigger, it will continue to cater to the unique needs of different communities, streamlining services and making healthcare across the county more accessible.

We are happy to discuss flexible working options as part of the interview process.
