Head of Marine Autonomous Systems Operations

The Marine Autonomous and Robotic Systems (MARS) facility at the National Oceanography Centre is seeking an experienced professional to oversee the operations of its marine science robotic fleet. As the Associate Head of MARS (Operations), you will be responsible for managing a team of engineers and technicians who maintain, prepare, and operate the equipment at sea.
The MARS fleet consists of AUVs, underwater gliders, uncrewed surface vehicles, ROV, and tethered Underwater Vehicles. Each class of vehicles has an associated engineering manager and operationally focused team of technicians. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Marine Facilities Programmes to maintain the multi-year programme of MAS activities.
The role requires a highly accomplished engineer with extensive experience of managing all aspects of complex MAS operations. You will play a crucial role in developing links with marine scientists and technologists in NOC and the broader ocean science community to expand and enhance the service provided by MARS.

You will be able to work effectively in a team environment and communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the marine science community and the ability to develop links with marine scientists and technologists. You will be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
