Position Overview

The Marine Autonomous and Robotic Systems (MARS) facility is at the forefront of marine science innovation, responsible for the development, operation, and maintenance of the UK's premier marine robotic fleet. This fleet is part of the National Marine Equipment Pool, recognized as the largest centralized marine scientific equipment pool in Europe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operational teams responsible for the maintenance and deployment of various marine robotic vehicles, including AUVs, underwater gliders, uncrewed surface vehicles, and ROVs.
  • Collaborate closely with the Head of Marine Facilities Programmes to ensure the successful execution of a multi-year operational plan.
  • Engage with marine scientists and technologists to enhance service delivery and operational capabilities.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess a strong engineering background with extensive experience in managing complex marine autonomous systems operations. A proven track record in fostering collaborations within the marine science community is essential.
