Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team at the Marine Autonomous and Robotic Systems (MARS) group. This role is pivotal in advancing our mechanical engineering capabilities within the realm of marine robotics.

The MARS group is dedicated to the development, operation, and maintenance of cutting-edge marine robotic systems. Our fleet includes Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), subsea gliders, unmanned surface vehicles, and remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). We deploy these systems globally, conducting essential research in diverse marine environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design process for innovative robotic systems, guiding projects from initial concept through to deployment.
  • Oversee a skilled mechanical team, ensuring high-quality design solutions that meet rigorous operational standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate new technologies and enhance existing platforms.
  • Participate in field trials and support the deployment of robotic systems in various marine settings.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Extensive experience in mechanical design for complex systems, with a track record of successful project delivery.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and guide a team of engineers.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software, with a preference for Autodesk Inventor, and familiarity with design data management tools.
  • A meticulous approach to design, ensuring robust solutions suitable for challenging marine environments.
