Mechanical Engineer

The Marine Autonomous and Robotic Systems (MARS) group at National Oceanography Centre is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design of complex robotic systems. As a key member of the MARS team, you will be responsible for overseeing the life cycle of new robotic systems, from concept to deployment at sea.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the mechanical design of multiple projects, taking them through from concept to completion.
- Oversee the MARS Mechanical Team, providing guidance and support to ensure successful project delivery.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement new robotic systems.
- Ensure that all designs meet the required safety and performance standards.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including customers and suppliers.
- Significant experience in leading the mechanical design of complex systems.
- Proven ability to take projects from initial concept to completion.
- Extensive experience leading small teams and working in a multi-disciplinary setting.
- Expert user of 3DCAD (Autodesk Inventor an advantage), design data management tools (DDM preferred), and numerical analysis tools (ANSYS an advantage).
- Experience of all areas of development throughout the full engineering development life-cycle is highly desirable.
- Experience in some aspects of marine engineering is highly desirable.
