Lead Mechanical Engineer

Leonardo is seeking a highly skilled Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our team in the development of next-generation Defence Comms equipment. As a key member of our Mechanical Engineering Team, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative solutions to overcome challenges set by our customers.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and implement Mechanical Engineering solutions across the entire Engineering Lifecycle, ensuring consideration of product quality, safety, reliability, testability, and sustainability.
- Approve and own Mechanical solutions for harsh environments, including shock, vibration, EMC, RADHAZ, and salt fog.
- Ensure quality and consistency of detailed design, including numerical calculations and tolerance studies.
- Design and develop Mechanical systems using 3D CAD tools, preferably PTC Creo.
- Support the resolution of technical problem investigations and review sub-contractor solutions.
- Develop and mentor Mechanical Engineers within the local Team.
- Chair reviews of Mechanical designs in accordance with business and industry standards.
- Contribute to the creation of Functional Processes and Best Practices.
- Manage Work Package delivery elements to achieve desired Quality, Schedule, and Cost.
- A minimum of an upper second-class degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience in Defence and/or naval environments.
- Experience in Mechanical engineering for Electro-mechanical products.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD tools, ideally PTC Creo.
- Strong problem-solving skills using a structured, logical approach.
- Understanding of Structural and Thermal Analyses data to inform design decisions.
- Experience in various aspects of DfX, including Manufacturing, Assembly, Test, Integration, and Sustainability.
- Leadership experience in managing a Team of Mechanical Engineers across multiple Programmes.
