The Marine Autonomous and Robotic Systems (MARS) facility at the National Oceanography Centre is seeking an experienced professional to lead the operations team. As the Associate Head of MARS (Operations), you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance, preparation, and operation of the UK's marine science robotic fleet.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience in managing complex marine autonomous systems operations and will play a crucial role in developing links with marine scientists and technologists to expand and enhance the service provided by MARS.
The MARS fleet consists of AUVs, underwater gliders, uncrewed surface vehicles, ROV, and tethered underwater vehicles. Each class of vehicles has an associated engineering manager and operationally focused team of technicians who maintain, prepare, and operate the equipment at sea.
The Associate Head of MARS (Operations) will work closely with the Head of Marine Facilities Programmes to maintain the multi-year programme of MAS activities and will be responsible for oversight of those teams.
About YouWe are looking for a highly accomplished engineer with extensive experience of managing all aspects of complex MAS operations. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of developing links with marine scientists and technologists to expand and enhance the service provided by MARS.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
