Job Summary

The Maintenance Officer will be responsible for the efficient maintenance of the school site, including technical and administrative duties to ensure effective use of facilities. The successful candidate will ensure that the school environment and services are maintained to a high standard, including supervising cleaners and hours.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure all roads, paths, and school grounds are maintained and clear of obstructions, taking precautions against frost damage to internal and external water systems.
  • Supervise cleaners to ensure all duties are fulfilled, and proactive planning is in place, picking up additional duties if required.
  • Plan and carry out various maintenance duties to ensure the general upkeep and maintenance of the premises, including repairs and improvements (electrical, plumbing, glazing, joinery) as necessary.
  • Monitor and operate the heating system, advising management of any faults to ensure economical use of fuel and water.
  • Maintain and monitor Health and Safety standards, keeping all records and paperwork up to date, reporting any failures to comply with the school's statutory Health & Safety obligations.
  • Ensure termly audits are carried out, and all recommendations arising from health and safety audits, water risk assessments, and regular maintenance inspections are acted upon promptly and closed out.
  • Act as Fire Warden, assisting with regular school fire-drills and recommending improvements to safety where necessary, ensuring necessary weekly fire systems and equipment are being carried out and logged appropriately.
  • Manage and maintain the Legionella Management plan, acting as tap turner.
  • Have an outline understanding of Equality and Diversity, Health and Safety, Asbestos Management, Legionella Management, Fire and Bomb Management, COSHH, and RIDDOR, with training to be carried out as required.
  • Update and uphold all H&S policies and procedures to ensure the safety of children and visitors to site.
  • Carry out a preventative, planned maintenance programme, undertaking routine inspections of buildings, fixtures, fittings, premises, and grounds to assess for minor works or repairs required.
  • Be proactive in planning repairs and maintenance to ensure the school and site are maintained to the highest standard.
  • Be aware and comply with all policies and procedures, including H&S, Security, confidentiality, data protection, and report all concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Adhere to the school's Safeguarding Policy, which safeguards and promotes the welfare of all children.
  • Appointment to this post is subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check, 2 satisfactory references, and verification of qualifications.
