About the Role:

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and experienced Behaviour Support Assistant to join our team in Spilsby, Lincolnshire. As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work closely with students who require additional support to manage their behaviour and emotions. Your primary responsibility will be to provide one-to-one and small group support to students, helping them develop coping mechanisms and improve their overall school experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students with SEMH needs, helping them develop emotional regulation skills and manage challenging behaviour.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to ensure a holistic approach to student support.
  • Develop and implement Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs) to address individual student needs.
  • Use de-escalation techniques to manage behavioural crises and ensure student and staff safety.
  • Assist in creating structured routines to promote positive behaviour and reduce incidents of disruption.
  • Build strong relationships with students to help them feel safe and supported within the school environment.
  • Support students' academic progress by helping them engage with the curriculum despite behavioural challenges.
  • Liaise with parents, carers, and external professionals to ensure comprehensive support for each student.
  • Facilitate workshops or small group sessions focusing on emotional regulation, anger management, and social skills development.
  • Maintain accurate records of behavioural incidents, interventions, and student progress, reporting to senior staff as required.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs, ideally in a school setting.
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies, including de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and external professionals.
  • Patience, resilience, and empathy when working with students facing emotional and behavioural challenges.
  • A relevant qualification in SEN, Childcare, Behaviour Management, or a related field is desirable.
  • Proven experience in managing challenging behaviour and promoting positive change.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people, with a strong understanding of safeguarding protocols.
  • An enhanced DBS check registered to the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
