Mental Health Support Worker Opportunity

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Support Worker to join our team in Lincoln. As a key member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will provide essential care and guidance to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver one-to-one and small group emotional and behavioural support to students with SEMH needs, promoting their mental health and wellbeing.
  • Develop and implement personalised support plans, focusing on mental health interventions and emotional regulation strategies.
  • Collaborate with external professionals, such as counsellors and educational psychologists, to ensure a holistic approach to student care.
  • Monitor student progress, offering guidance and support to help them develop coping strategies and resilience.
  • Contribute to the development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs), providing insights from a mental health perspective.
  • Support students in managing crises and challenging situations, using de-escalation techniques and therapeutic approaches.
  • Facilitate workshops or group sessions on mental health awareness, emotional regulation, and coping strategies for students.
  • Provide a consistent and safe presence during school hours, break times, and off-site activities, supporting students in both structured and unstructured environments.
  • Maintain accurate records of interventions, progress, and any safeguarding concerns, ensuring regular communication with senior leadership and safeguarding teams.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience working in a mental health or social care setting, ideally with children or young people.
  • Strong understanding of SEMH challenges and relevant support strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and external professionals.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and empathetic when dealing with students in distress or exhibiting challenging behaviour.
  • A relevant qualification in mental health, psychology, social care, or a related field is desirable.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and the ability to recognise and act on safeguarding concerns.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to working in various school environments.
  • An enhanced DBS check on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
