Behaviour Support Assistant

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to join our client schools in Spilsby. This role is ideal for individuals committed to helping students with challenging behaviour thrive academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for students exhibiting challenging behaviour.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs) tailored to individual student needs.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to provide holistic behavioural support both in and outside the classroom.
  • Use de-escalation techniques to manage behavioural crises, ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff.
  • Assist in creating structured routines that promote positive behaviour and reduce incidents of disruption.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students to help them feel safe and supported within the school environment.
  • Support students' academic progress by helping them engage with the curriculum despite behavioural challenges.
  • Liaise with parents, carers, and external professionals such as social workers, educational psychologists, and counsellors to ensure comprehensive support for each student.
  • Facilitate workshops or small group sessions focusing on emotional regulation, anger management, and social skills development.
  • Maintain accurate records of behavioural incidents, interventions, and student progress, reporting to senior staff as required.
  • Assist in safeguarding students by identifying and reporting any concerns in line with school policies.
Essential Requirements:
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs, ideally in a school setting.
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies, including de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and external professionals.
  • Patience, resilience, and empathy when working with students facing emotional and behavioural challenges.
  • A relevant qualification in SEN, Childcare, Behaviour Management, or a related field is desirable.
  • Proven experience in managing challenging behaviour and promoting positive change.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people, with a strong understanding of safeguarding protocols.
  • An enhanced DBS check registered to the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
