Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert guidance on state benefits policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement benefits programs to support the agency's goal of recruiting, supporting, and maintaining a competent and diverse workforce.
  • Collaborate with agency management to ensure compliance with benefits-related policies and procedures.
  • Manage and maintain accurate records of employee benefits, including health insurance, life insurance, disability, and retirement programs.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of staff and management to provide guidance on benefits-related matters.
  • Stay up-to-date on changes in benefits laws and regulations, and implement necessary changes to our benefits programs.
Requirements
  • Considerable knowledge of policies and practices related to the administration of employee benefits.
  • Ability to analyze, make corrective action, and suggest resolution of complex benefits-related problems.
  • Experience with benefits administration software, including Cardinal/HRIS, workers' comp reporting portal, and VNav.
  • Extensive knowledge of Workers' Compensation and VSDP program guidelines and experience processing claims.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively interact in a team or project environment with a wide range of management, technical, HR, benefits, and payroll employees.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in processes, procedures, and technology.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience working with customers and co-workers either in person, by telephone, and electronically.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Considerable, progressively responsible experience in administering employee benefits.
