Role Summary

The Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Clinical Lead Psychiatrist to join the Early Intervention in Psychosis team in Hastings. This position has become available due to retirement and offers an ideal opportunity to develop the team's capabilities.

This role is part of the Trust's commitment to enhancing the Hastings Early Intervention in Psychosis service and supporting families and carers during challenging times.

The Consultant Psychiatrist will be responsible for providing high-quality medical care to clients aged 18-65 in the Hastings team. Key duties include:

Main Responsibilities
  • Providing evidence-based interventions for service users with first-episode psychosis and comorbid conditions.
  • Supporting early intervention practitioners in creating comprehensive care plans, including relapse prevention and crisis management.
  • Leading the development of local evidence-based interventions for the caseload, in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Offering psychopharmacological advice to other professionals and GPs, in line with guidelines established within the wider service.
  • Collaborating with statutory and non-statutory agencies to manage early intervention clients effectively.
  • Providing training to professional and non-statutory audiences as appropriate.
  • Participating in the planning and development of Early Intervention Services across Sussex.
  • Liaising closely with other functional teams within the locality to ensure consistent and appropriate services.
  • Managing the input of other medical staff, establishing and monitoring standards, and ensuring the recording of clinical interventions, case summaries, and discharge summaries.
  • Ensuring that medical staff in the team receive appropriate clinical supervision and training on a regular basis.
  • Encouraging and participating in team developments and training, and providing appropriate clinical leadership.
  • Being a core member of the Early Intervention in Psychosis Local Leadership Team, where clinical governance, service development, and finance are managed.

Essential Qualifications
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management.
  • Excellent clinical skills, using a bio-psycho-social perspective and extensive medical knowledge.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
Desirable Experience
  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to the post within the NHS or comparable service.
Academic Skills & Lifelong Learning
  • Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training.
  • Participated in research or service evaluation.
  • Has actively participated in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes.
