Clinical Psychologist Lead

This is a newly developed role for a Clinical Psychologist Lead, and the post holder will take on the position of Clinical and Professional lead for the Tier 4 CAMHS Psychology Service, across the different departments in Tier 4.

This is a permanent full-time post, developed to improve the professional structure of psychology within the service, and will give the postholder the opportunity to help shape the organization's Children, Young People and Families Mental Health Services.

Main Responsibilities

The postholder will take on a new Clinical Psychologist position, designed to have overall leadership, professionally and clinically for Clinical Psychology staff within Tier 4 CAMHS. This will involve:

  • Supervising senior and other qualified Clinical Psychology staff
  • Holding a reasonable clinical caseload
  • Contributing to Service development
  • Involvement in training others
  • Developing the psychological knowledge of other professionals within the Tier 4 service

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS)
  • Membership of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

The following qualifications and experience are desirable:

  • Post-doctoral training in one or more additional relevant specialized areas of psychological practice
  • Knowledge of relevant NHS structures, processes, and policies
  • Ability to communicate complex information to clients, their families, carers, and other professional colleagues
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design, and complex data analysis
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS
  • Formal supervision and/or mentoring training

Essential Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Extensive assessed experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist
  • Extensive experience of specialist psychological assessment, formulation, and intervention with clients across all care settings
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course, presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity
  • Experience of policy and service development, and of initiating and implementing service improvements and developments
  • Experience of managing referrals and waiting lists, and contributing to the strategic development of services

Desirable Experience

The following experience is desirable:

  • Experience of managing budgets and resources
  • Experience of representing the profession in local policy forums
  • Experience of liaising and negotiating with commissioners and others concerned with determining Service provision
