Technical Support for Ubuntu and Open Source Solutions

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Linux engineer to join Canonical and provide technical support for our customers using Ubuntu and open-source products.

About the Role

As a Linux Desktop Support Engineer at Canonical, you will be responsible for delivering an exceptional technical support experience on the full desktop and server technical stack. This will involve owning and managing customer cases from problem qualification to full resolution, and collaborating with colleagues and senior engineers as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise and support to customers via telephone, email, and web
  • Act as an internal customer advocate, keeping them informed in a timely manner
  • Ensure customer cases are handled according to the Service Level Agreement (SLA) with the highest possible customer satisfaction
  • Contribute new knowledge base articles and maintain existing ones to share knowledge and lessons learned with customers
  • Draft and distribute technical notices for internal and external communication
  • Prioritize work to accomplish the most important and urgent tasks first
  • Stay up-to-date with product and service developments to provide accurate information and guidance to customers

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field from an accredited university; preferable majors include Computer Science, MIS, Electrical Engineering, etc.
  • Experience with system performance troubleshooting
  • Experience with Linux troubleshooting, including collecting logs and stack traces, and fine-tuning by editing configuration files
  • Experience with Linux integration with other environments, such as authentication/directory services and network file systems
  • Experience with Linux server administration
  • Programming fundamentals in any language, including bash, Python, Perl, Ruby, JavaScript, C, C++, or Go
  • Ability to learn quickly and handle the pressure of a customer-facing role
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
