Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Secretary to join our team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. As a Medical Secretary, you will provide administrative support to a Consultant and Cleft Orthodontist, ensuring the smooth operation of their clinics and theatres.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing administrative support to the Consultant and Cleft Orthodontist, including typing clinical letters and other communications
  • Booking and rearranging appointments using the trust's systems
  • Supporting the departmental medical secretaries when they are on leave or away from the office
  • Providing guidance and support to junior members of the team
  • Assisting with the arrangement of patient procedures, including pre-surgical assessments and admissions

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Good general education (Maths and English A-C GCSE 9-4)
  • Business Admin NVQIII or equivalent
  • AMSPAR Certificate
  • Working knowledge of Medical Terminology
  • Experience working as a medical secretary
  • Experience of dealing with public/customers
  • Experience of working with Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience of using IT systems
  • Experience of working in a busy environment
