Job Title: Principal Commercial Lawyer

We are seeking an experienced Principal Commercial Lawyer to join our team at the London Borough of Lewisham. As a key member of our Legal Services department, you will be responsible for managing a team of lawyers and providing expert legal advice to the council and its stakeholders.

About the Role
  • Manage a team of lawyers and provide guidance and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality legal services.
  • Provide expert legal advice to the council and its stakeholders on a range of commercial and property law matters.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Legal Services department.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure the council's legal needs are met.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in commercial and property law and ensure the Legal Services department is aware of any relevant developments.
Requirements
  • Current practising certificate (either as a Barrister, Solicitor or Legal Executive).
  • Experience of managing a team and providing guidance and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality legal services.
  • Strong experience in at least one of the following areas of law: Regeneration, Property, Procurement and Contracts, Planning, Environmental Law and public realm, Commercial Law.
  • Ability to anticipate problems and solve them accordingly.
  • Dependable and self-reliant with a can-do attitude.
  • Experience working in a local government setting.
