Job Title: Principal Lawyer - Place

Join the dynamic Legal team at the London Borough of Lewisham as a Principal Lawyer - Place. This exciting role offers a unique opportunity to lead a team of lawyers and contribute to the development of the borough's legal services.

About the Role:

The Principal Lawyer - Place will be responsible for managing a team of lawyers and providing complex legal advice to the council. The successful candidate will have a strong background in commercial law and experience in managing a team. They will be expected to work closely with the Head of Legal Services and other senior officers to develop and implement the council's legal strategy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a team of lawyers and provide guidance and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality legal services.
  • Provide complex legal advice to the council and its officers, including on commercial law matters.
  • Develop and implement the council's legal strategy, working closely with the Head of Legal Services and other senior officers.
  • Contribute to the development of the council's policies and procedures, ensuring they are compliant with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Manage the finances and human resources of the team, ensuring business plan objectives are met.
Requirements:
  • A current practising certificate (either as a Barrister, Solicitor or Legal Executive).
  • A strong background in commercial law, with experience in managing a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on delivering high-quality results.
  • Experience working in a local government setting, with knowledge of relevant laws and regulations.
