About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate SEN Teacher to join our permanent staff at an alternative provision in Totnes. As part of our team, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with students who face a range of complex learning and behavioural challenges. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering resilience, promoting emotional well-being, and facilitating meaningful progress for each individual learner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging and tailored lessons that meet the individual needs of students with a range of SEN, including autism, ADHD, SEMH, and specific learning difficulties.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment that encourages positive behaviour and engagement.
  • Collaborate with teaching assistants, support staff, and external agencies to provide holistic support for students.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing regular feedback and adjusting teaching strategies as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in partnership with parents, carers, and other professionals.
  • Promote a nurturing and positive classroom ethos, encouraging confidence, self-esteem, and emotional well-being.
  • Uphold the values and ethos of the SEN school group, ensuring that all students are given the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant SEN teaching qualifications.
  • Experience working with students who have a range of Special Educational Needs, particularly in an alternative provision or SEN setting.
  • Strong understanding of SEN teaching methodologies and strategies, including differentiation and behaviour management.
  • Empathy, patience, and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all pupils.
