The Lister Hospital, located in Stevenage, offers a unique geographical location close to London and Cambridge. The Trust is renowned for its commitment to the highest standards of care, as well as its friendly and supportive approach.

Main Duties of the Job

The successful applicant will be expected to be actively involved in the Heart Failure Service at East and North Herts NHS Trust. They will take a lead role in developing links with the community heart function service and integrated heart function service currently being commissioned. Additionally, they will work closely with the Heart Failure hospital at Home Service. The candidate will also contribute to the cardiac imaging service, with extensive experience in CMR and complex echo expected. They will participate in the Cardiologist of the week rota, which includes weekend cardiology ward rounds.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
  • Maintenance of high-quality patient-centred care
  • Shared responsibility for the day-to-day management of the service and participation in strategic planning
  • Teaching and training within the multidisciplinary service
  • Active involvement in multidisciplinary team meetings and directorate clinical governance activity
  • Active participation in continuing medical education

Person SpecificationQualifications / TrainingEssential Criteria
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register
  • MRCP or qualification of an equivalent level
  • Advanced Life Support
Desirable Criteria
  • Postgraduate degree (or equivalent)
Previous ExperienceEssential Criteria
  • Broad range of experience in cardiology
  • Experience in Heart Failure
  • Level 2 accreditation in cardiac MRI
  • Experience in complex echo
  • Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
  • Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
  • Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice
Desirable Criteria
  • Demonstrable experience in a Locum Consultant role
SkillsEssential Criteria
  • Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors.
  • Evidence engagement with appraisal and revalidation
