Bioinformatics IT Specialist

Key Responsibilities- Develop and Document Bioinformatics Tools: Design, develop, and document bioinformatics tools to improve processes in support of molecular assay development.
- Manage and Analyze Genomic Data: Manage and analyze small- and large-scale genomic, transcriptomics, or other biological datasets to support research and development initiatives.
- Implement and Optimize Algorithms: Implement and optimize algorithms for data processing and analysis, and develop and maintain databases and web-based tools for data storage and retrieval.
- Support Study Planning and Coordination: Support the planning and coordination of studies, including writing protocols and reviewing and approving documents.
- Provide IT Support: Provide IT support for bioinformatics infrastructure, including servers, storage systems, and cloud computing environments.
- Troubleshoot Technical Issues: Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to bioinformatics tools and systems.
- Develop Knowledge Expertise: Develop knowledge expertise in bioinformatic workflows and coach and mentor colleagues to ensure development of a learning environment.
- Ensure Quality and Regulatory Standards: Ensure adherence to design control procedures and to the required quality and regulatory standards.
- Education: Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Programming Skills: Programming skills in languages such as Python, R, or Perl.
- Version Control Systems: Familiarity with version control systems (e.g. Git).
- Genomics Data Analysis: Experience in the analysis of genomics data (NGS and/or PCR) and knowledge of human genetics, genomics, and/or infectious disease.
- Bioinformatics Tools and Databases: Knowledge of core bioinformatics tools and relevant bioinformatics databases (dbSNP, COSMIC, etc.), and a basic knowledge of statistics is expected.
- Primer Design Tools: Knowledge of primer design tools.
- Communication and Collaboration: Strong communication and collaboration skills.
