About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Bioinformatics Specialist to join our team at Yourgene Health. As a key member of our bioinformatics development team, you will provide technical leadership and expertise in the design, development, and maintenance of algorithms and software for use in molecular diagnostic and screening products and services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and bioinformatics expertise in development projects, ensuring the delivery of high-quality solutions that meet user needs and product requirements.
  • Support and guide junior staff members, promoting knowledge sharing and skill development within the team.
  • Lead the design and execution of studies to refine existing algorithms and develop novel ones, converting genomic and other bioinformatic data into actionable clinical information.
  • Oversee the transfer of existing products and tools to cloud-based infrastructure, ensuring seamless integration and scalability.
  • Develop, verify, and validate software applications and tools that implement bioinformatics processing algorithms and pipelines.
  • Produce and maintain comprehensive and accurate documentation of bioinformatics studies executed and software developed.
  • Collaborate with development scientists to create products, services, and processes that meet the user needs of Yourgene Health's customers.
  • Contribute to the support, maintenance, and improvement of products, services, and in-house bioinformatics computing resources and associated documentation.
Requirements
  • Further degree (or equivalent) in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Scientific Computing, or a related field, with a strong foundation in applied mathematics and statistics, algorithm development, and software programming.
  • 5-10+ years of relevant experience in bioinformatics, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality solutions in a commercial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud computing platforms, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, with experience in designing, developing, and managing cloud-based infrastructure and applications.
  • Excellent scientific software programming, statistical, and quantitative skills, with practical experience of at least 3 appropriate compiled and scripted general-purpose and domain-specific languages.
  • Ability to lead, perform, and troubleshoot complex bioinformatic analyses independently and to a high level of quality.
  • Experience of applying the fundamental elements and workflow of software development processes to predefined timescales, preferably in a commercial environment.
  • Direct experience of working with Next Generation Sequencing data sets is preferable but not essential.
