About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Bioinformatician to join our team at The University of Manchester. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will play a crucial role in the development and validation of our TOO classifier, CUPiD.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in computational biology, bioinformatics, or a related field, with significant experience in the development and application of statistical and machine learning methods. You will be responsible for optimizing and validating our classifier, working closely with our multidisciplinary team of clinicians, molecular biologists, and computational scientists.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and apply statistical and machine learning approaches to enhance classifier performance
  • Refine data augmentation strategies for generating training data sets
  • Integrate multi-omic data, combining genomic and fragmentomic features alongside methylation profiles
  • Optimize classifier hyperparameters and improve statistical models for normalisation of genome-wide methylation sequencing data
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Statistics, or a related field
  • Significant experience in the development and application of statistical and machine learning methods
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Experience with generative machine learning models, Bayesian models, or generalized linear models for count data
