About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Bioinformatics Specialist to join our team at Yourgene Health. As a key member of our bioinformatics development team, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and expertise in the design, development, and maintenance of algorithms and software for use in molecular diagnostic and screening products and services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and bioinformatics expertise in development projects, ensuring the delivery of high-quality solutions that meet user needs and product requirements.
  • Support and guide junior staff members, promoting knowledge sharing and skill development within the team.
  • Lead the design and execution of studies to refine existing algorithms and develop novel ones, converting genomic and other bioinformatic data into actionable clinical information.
  • Oversee the transfer of existing products and tools to cloud-based infrastructure, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance.
  • Develop, verify, and validate software applications and tools that implement bioinformatics processing algorithms and pipelines, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Produce and maintain comprehensive and accurate documentation of bioinformatics studies executed and software developed, facilitating knowledge sharing and collaboration.
  • Collaborate with development scientists to create products, services, and processes that meet the user needs of Yourgene Health's customers, leveraging bioinformatics analysis capabilities to drive innovation.
  • Contribute to the support, maintenance, and improvement of products, services, and in-house bioinformatics computing resources, ensuring the security and integrity of development bioinformatics data.
  • Manage interfaces with external development contractors to ensure that implementations of computational algorithms and processes are optimized for Yourgene Health products and services.
Requirements
  • Further degree (or equivalent) in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Scientific Computing, or similar field, with a strong foundation in applied mathematics and statistics, algorithm development, and software programming.
  • 5-10+ years of relevant experience in bioinformatics, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality solutions and leading technical projects.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud computing platforms, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, with experience in designing, developing, and managing cloud-based infrastructure and applications.
  • Excellent scientific software programming, statistical, and quantitative skills, with practical commercial experience of at least 3 appropriate compiled and scripted general-purpose and domain-specific languages.
  • Ability to lead, perform, and troubleshoot complex bioinformatic analyses independently and to a high level of quality, with a strong focus on delivering results under tight timelines.
  • Experience of working within interdisciplinary teams, with a willingness to take personal responsibility for ensuring project success.
  • Able to assimilate knowledge from technically detailed scientific sources, with a strong enthusiasm for staying up-to-date with the latest developments in bioinformatics and computational biology.
