About the Role

South Western Railway is seeking an experienced HR Business Partner to join our team in the outer London area. As an HR Business Partner, you will provide proactive, value-added HR support and guidance to line managers within your assigned client areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver the business-aligned People Plan and provide coaching and support to members of the management team on medium-term and operational people issues to achieve maximum performance.
  • Work collaboratively with local management teams to support and coach the line in managing their people issues in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Implement and deliver the HR People Plan to include ER case management, training & development, talent & succession planning, and change management to support the delivery of business objectives and drive a high-performance culture.
  • Provide a proactive, value-added HR service to supported business leaders across the function/area on medium-term and operational people issues.
  • Act as an HR expert to provide advice and guidance to line managers for all ER cases, including disciplines, grievances, AWOL, ill health severance, and redeployments.
  • Support line managers in the fair and consistent application of people policies and procedures.
  • Act as the first point of contact for all HR issues impacting local management teams within their geographical areas, including recruitment, training, talent, and succession, wellbeing, and employee relations.
  • Work with HR specialist functions to deliver services and projects to line managers.
  • Support management teams to develop a climate where they accept and are supported to accept responsibility for people management and embrace best practice in HR initiatives, systems, and procedures.
  • Manage employment tribunal cases in liaison with solicitors and the Senior HR Business Partner.
  • Ensure compliance with HR policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act.
Requirements
  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent) with a minimum GCSE in Maths and English Grade A-C.
  • Experienced HR professional with previous experience at operational level.
  • Ability to engage with and support line management teams while retaining an impartial professional viewpoint.
