Job Description:

The Head of Sales and Marketing will lead the commercial function and be responsible for marketing initiatives, developing strategies that drive growth, expand market presence, and enhance customer engagement.

This role involves developing and implementing a comprehensive sales and marketing strategy to drive revenue growth and market share, leading and inspiring the sales team, and working collaboratively with third-party agencies and partners to deliver appropriate and targeted demand generation activities throughout the year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive sales and marketing strategy to drive revenue growth and market share.
  • Lead and inspire the sales team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Work collaboratively with third-party agencies and partners to deliver appropriate and targeted demand generation activities throughout the year.
  • Identify new markets and business opportunities, aligning SMI's offerings with customer needs and market demands.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Manage budgets, forecasts, and performance metrics, ensuring alignment with business goals.
  • Liaise with legal advisors to resolve complex commercial legal issues. Strong understanding of the Client contract; identifying where contract amendments and renewals are required (working with Legal as necessary).

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a senior sales and marketing role, ideally within the engineering, defence, marine, or related sectors.
  • Be experienced in influencing credibly and effectively at all levels; comfortable with developing high-level relationships e.g. board level industry, senior service personnel and government.
  • Preferably have experience selling into Defence procurement processes for technical components and systems.
  • Have a track record of shaping and delivering client-focused technical solutions based on unique customer needs for strategic seven-figure projects and deals.
  • Have demonstrable achievements against challenging sales targets and against sales cycles lasting in some cases many months.
  • Have significant experience negotiating commercial contract terms on long-term, complex projects
  • Possess strong leadership skills with a track record of building high-performing teams.
  • Be a strategic thinker with an ability to develop and execute data-driven sales and marketing plans.
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
