Phlebotomy Specialist

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Community Phlebotomist to join our team at the Central District Nursing Service.
Main Responsibilities
As a Community Phlebotomist, you will play a vital role in providing phlebotomy care to patients who are housebound, working closely with the district nurse to ensure high standards of care are maintained.
Key Duties
- Prepare patients for blood sampling, ensuring their identity and consent are verified.
- Collect blood samples from patients, adhering to strict protocols to minimize risk of infection or contamination, and strive to reduce pain, bruising, or discomfort.
- In cases of difficulty, refer the patient back to the line manager or deputy line manager.
- Dispose of needles and waste safely, following the Sharps Policy.
- Ensure samples are of sufficient quantity for analysis and accurately labelled.
- Return samples to the appropriate collection area for same-day testing.
- Inform patients how to access their blood results and arrange follow-up visits.

Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A good standard of written and verbal English.
- Willingness to undertake required training.
- Basic level of IT skills.
- Awareness of maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Experience in dealing with the public.
- Ability to communicate effectively with older people.
- A valid car driver's license and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
