The Cancer and Haematology Outpatients department at the Churchill Hospital are looking for a dynamic, experienced, and innovative nurse to join our team as a Deputy Nurse Manager to help the team achieve the best care for patients.
This is a very busy department seeing up to 300 patients a day and is open from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, with occasional evening and weekend shifts.
We work in a modern environment in the Cancer Centre with access to shops and cafes.

For more information or to arrange an informal visit (which we do recommend), please email Susan Fletcher, Cancer and Haematology Outpatients Sister, on Main duties of the job As a band 6 Deputy Nurse Manager you will contribute to the smooth running of the department, acting as a role model for junior team members and support the development and delivery of a high standard of nursing care.
You will work closely with the Outpatients Sister, acting as deputy in their absence, and provide clinical and managerial leadership to the team.
The successful applicant will take the lead in a specific area of practice/project work in the outpatient environment.
The role will also involve providing patients with health education, line care and venesection, phlebotomy, cannulation and associated elements of treatment.
We aim to provide a service tailored to individual patients' needs as well as ensuring staff are supported through clinical supervision, educational programmes and on-going professional development.

Job description Job responsibilities Overall Objectives: To assist the OPD Nurse Manager, taking responsibility for the operational management of staff and resources to provide a safe environment for patients and in the managers absence, assume responsibility for the department.
To assist the OPD Nurse Manager in ensuring patients attending OPD are cared for to the highest possible standard and to develop practice with the support of the OPD manager.
To take the lead in a specific aspect of OPD service, including practicing clinically in an agreed care setting according to approved protocols or guidance, for example, line care and phlebotomy Key Result Areas: Co-ordinate service activity daily ensuring appropriate use of resources.
Supervise and mentor qualified and unqualified staff.
Manage complex patient referrals to maintain patient and department safety.
Contribute to the development of the service philosophy and the therapeutic environment.
Have a sensitive and compassionate manner with patients and relatives who are in various states of emotional distress in view of delicate nature of the disease **For more details please see the full Job Description** Person Specification Education/Training Essential Registered nurse; entry on part 1 or 2 of the NMC Register In possession of or working towards degree level education or demonstrate experience of working at this level.
Knowledge of cancer care or palliative care Desirable Teaching/management qualification Postgraduate degree Special Skills/aptitudes Essential Demonstrable experience in ward or outpatients co-ordination Venepuncture, cannulation and line care skills Good communication skills - empathetic providing psychological and emotional support, able to break bad news and provide clear instructions and constructive feedback.
Able to support and supervise others Desirable Experience of managing a team/being a team leader Personal Qualities Essential Ability to cope effectively under pressure and manage complex and challenging situations
