About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and caring Passenger Assistant to join our team at Community Transport. As a Passenger Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our passengers with varying disabilities.

Main Responsibilities

  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of passengers at all times.
  • Receive and convey passengers from/to their home address or other agreed point, and receive relevant information about their wellbeing.
  • Assist passengers with wheelchair access and ensure their comfort and safety.
  • Maintain safety standards at all times, including ensuring doors are properly closed and seatbelts fastened.
  • Manage unexpected incidents, such as vehicle breakdowns, and ensure safe evacuation and supervision of passengers.
  • Maintain discipline amongst passengers and prevent distractions to the driver.
  • Report any problems concerning passenger conduct or behaviour.
  • Deal with medical or personal hygiene issues.
  • Work with the driver to keep the vehicle clean and tidy.
  • Work within time frames required by route schedules and as part of a team.
  • Ensure the health and safety of yourself, colleagues, and passengers, in accordance with company policies and legislation.
  • Comply with the rules and procedures in the Employee Handbook.
  • Undertake professional training and personal development as identified by your Manager.

Essential Skills/Training

  • Experience working in a similar role as a Passenger Assistant or Escort.
  • Good understanding of the needs of individuals with varying disabilities.
  • Commitment to equality and diversity.
  • Understanding of client confidentiality.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with passengers, carers, relatives, and staff.
  • Experience working with equipment for wheelchairs and wheelchair passengers.
