Passenger Assistant

About the Role
As a Passenger Assistant with Community Transport, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and comfortable transportation of passengers with varying disabilities. Your primary responsibility will be to escort and assist passengers to board and alight vehicles safely, providing exceptional care and support throughout their journey.
Main Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety and well-being of passengers at all times, adhering to strict safety standards.
- Assist passengers with disabilities, including those who require wheelchair access, and ensure their comfort and safety during transportation.
- Manage unexpected incidents, such as vehicle breakdowns, and ensure the safe evacuation of passengers in emergency situations.
- Maintain discipline among passengers and prevent distractions to the driver.
- Report any issues concerning passenger conduct or behavior to the head of the establishment and the Supervisor.
- Deal with medical or personal hygiene issues, ensuring the health and safety of passengers and staff.
- Work with the driver to maintain a clean and tidy vehicle, adhering to enhanced cleaning routines where necessary.
- Work within the time frames required by route schedules and as part of a team.
- Take responsibility for ensuring the health and safety of yourself, colleagues, and passengers, in accordance with the company's Health and Safety Policy and all relevant legislation.
- Comply with the rules and procedures in the Employee Handbook.
- Undertake any professional training and personal development identified as appropriate to the role, as determined by your Manager or a service purchaser.
Essential Skills/Training
- Experience of working within a similar role as a Passenger Assistant or Escort.
- Good understanding of the needs of individuals with varying disabilities.
- An understanding and commitment to equality and diversity.
- An understanding of client confidentiality.
- The ability to communicate effectively with passengers, carers, relatives, and staff.
- Experience of working with equipment for wheelchairs and wheelchair passengers.
