About the Role

PIMCO, a global leader in active fixed income, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Economist and Portfolio Strategist to join its EMEA team. As a key member of the portfolio management effort, you will specialize in Emerging Markets in the region and contribute to the development of macroeconomic strategies and investment recommendations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Macroeconomic Analysis: Conduct in-depth research on macroeconomic trends, including inflation, growth, and balance of payments information, to inform portfolio strategy and investment decisions.
  • Sovereign Balance Sheet Analysis: Perform detailed analysis of sovereign balance sheets, particularly for distressed economies, to identify opportunities in sovereign credit and local government bond markets.
  • Research and Market Updates: Contribute to research through on-the-ground country trips and frequent market updates, providing actionable insights and investment recommendations to the portfolio management team.
Requirements
  • Minimum of five years' experience in regional economics.
  • Masters or PhD in Economics or Finance, with experience in International Finance Institutions (IFIs) a plus.
Critical Competencies
  • Demonstrated expertise in sovereign balance sheet analysis, particularly in Emerging Markets.
  • Highly quantitative approach to analysis.
  • Ability to work closely with Portfolio Managers, Analysts, and Account Managers in a collaborative manner.
  • Effective client presentation skills and ability to articulate PIMCO's philosophy and process.
