Job Title: Senior/Principal Economist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior/Principal Economist to join our team at The Economist. As a key member of our research department, you will be responsible for leading economic research and analysis to inform our publications and policy recommendations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct applied research on economic issues, including macroeconomics, microeconomics, and international economics.
  • Lead the design and implementation of research outputs and publications, including articles, reports, and policy briefs.
  • Provide technical support to our editorial team and contribute to the development of our publications.
  • Participate in teams preparing our flagship publications and other projects.
  • Lead in the delivery of internal and external training programs for our staff and government officials.
Requirements:
  • PhD in Economics or related field, with a background in empirical analysis and policy-focused research.
  • At least 8 years of relevant professional experience, with a minimum of 12 years at the principal level.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting independent research, including international experience working in several countries.
  • Evidence of high-quality research output and record of publications in international peer-reviewed professional journals.
  • Technical knowledge, analytical, and conceptual skills in economics.
  • Good understanding of our institutional context, priorities, and goals.
  • Written and verbal proficiency in English.
