Psychiatrist Consultant in Learning Disabilities

This is a substantive post within the Liaison service across 2 sites. You will work alongside existing consultants in Older People's mental health who provide sessional support and a liaison team providing clinical assessment and management of patients with mental health problems at the PRUH Hospital in Farnborough and QEH in Woolwich.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide day-to-day assessment and management of working age and older adult patients referred to PRU liaison service during working hours.
- Offer comprehensive psychiatric care to patients through evaluation, diagnosis, and use of appropriate treatment plans/strategies, advising and supporting acute hospital staff as needed.
- Be available to act as Section 12(2) approved doctor for the purpose of Mental Health Act Assessments.
- Make decisions (with other team members and with supervision from the Consultant) regarding referrals to the crisis service, admissions to mental health hospital (gate keeping, discharges from hospital to the crisis service and treatment of patients in accordance with medical standards and local guidelines).
- Ensure the involvement of families and careers, wherever possible, with the patients' consent in treatment planning.
- Facilitate discharge, care planning, and good communication with families for patients in acute wards as well as enabling better and more effective care of those who are in acute hospital beds.
- Keep excellent clinical records including excellent relevant quality and other data.
- Comply with the Trust's agreed policies and procedures and always practice in line with the Royal College of Psychiatrists' Good Psychiatric Practice and General Medical Council's Good Medical Practice.
