About the Role:

The Section Engineer will be responsible for the management of the construction site to achieve project delivery to customer objectives, while maintaining health and safety, quality, environmental impact, and cost control standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set a high personal example of safety and environmental behavior.
  • Supervise subcontractors, assistant and site engineers, and workforce, ensuring they understand RAMS before commencing work.
  • Check shift engineers' setting out to ensure accuracy and adherence to responsibilities.
  • Maintain reasonable survey book standards and daily diaries.
  • Attend and sometimes run coordination meetings with stakeholders and subcontractors.
  • Ensure 3D information drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction.
  • Complete inspection and test plans, digitally recording results as required.
  • Prepare and monitor a 2-4 weeks programme with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Monitor work to ensure unsafe conditions and non-compliance with company policies are promptly addressed.
  • Consider plant, labour, material costs, and programme.
  • Carry out material take-off and requisitions as requested.
  • Complete Method Statements, Inspection Test Plans, and review documents prepared by others.
  • Order materials and maintain a register of orders placed and confirmed.
  • Complete Temporary Works Design Briefs and inspect temporary works structures.
  • Maintain good working relations with clients, designers, RE, and supply chain.
  • Communicate with foremen and gangers to ensure full understanding of information provided.
  • Confirm verbal instructions in writing and maintain comprehensive records of resources employed.
  • Ensure delivery tickets are cost-coded and passed to accounts for processing.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Successful experience at a management engineering level in construction, specifically in civil engineering and/or utilities.
  • Demonstrated application of growing commercial and contractual knowledge.
  • Experience of working in a cost-conscious environment.
  • Good people management experience.
  • Experience in managing subcontractors.
  • Experience in stakeholder management (client).
  • Relationship building with external parties is critical.
  • Significant civil engineering technology knowledge with significant previous experience.
  • A highly capable construction problem solver.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact at various levels.
  • Computer literacy advanced.
  • CSCS card.

Desirable Skills:

  • Airport experience/critical areas experience.
  • Experience of working in an international organization.
  • Experience in stakeholder management (key stakeholders apart from client).
  • Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers or equivalent.
